Sunday is a great day to spend with your family . . . especially when that family happens to be the expansive circle of loved ones known affectionately as Team Midwest.
At the February Scottsdale Show, Championship Sunday was an especially grand occasion for Midwest, marking the culmination of an event that kicked off another record breaking Horse Show, Midwest shined––in fact, brighter than ever before––when one great horse after another earned a series of 38 championships including both major Supreme Halter Awards that will stay in memory forever.
Midwest’s Scottsdale Show triumphs were a perfect celebration, following three months of preparation, anticipation and shared effort that led up to this inaugural event of our show year.
Our winter season––a time for camaraderie in this place we love to gather each year––began when Team Midwest came together at the farm in Scottsdale for a New Year’s Eve celebration on what was one of the special in memory––That sunny day, Midwest hosted the ArabHorse Farm Tour Finale, where family, friends and guests enjoyed a preview of spectacular Invitational Sale consignments and an unequaled display of stallion power with an “all hands on deck” presentation of the magnificent stallions of Midwest.
And, the Farm Tour Benefit Auction raised over $30,000 for
Healing Hearts Animal Rescue and Refuge.
A few days later David departed for Punta Del Este, Uruguay where he showed Brazilian National Champion Stallion *Laman HVP to the 2011 Supreme Stallion Championship for owners Carlos & Chris Roizner of Haras Los Palmares, also the proud owners of the newly crowned Scottsdale Champion Mare, French Psylk.

At some of the fun that led up to Scottsdale Week
In late January, Midwest hosted a private dinner and presentation for the local chapter of the World Presidents Organization (WPO). A most touching moment occurred near the end of presentation just after Magnum Psyche and LD Pistal displayed a little stallion macho. When marketing assistant Nate White led Pistal over to a gentleman seated at the edge of the crowd in a wheelchair, the stallion returned at once to his gentle demeanor, quietly munching carrots from the gentlemen’s hands like a puppy eating treats from a child. It was a lovely prelude to the stallion’s enormous victories at the Scottsdale Show just a few weeks later.
AND at the Show…
The Scottsdale Show opened on Thursday, February 17th. Shortly thereafter the roofline of the Midwest stalls began filling up with Championship Roses! Ten days later, that same roofline was covered with an astonishing testimony to the stellar achievements of the great horses of Team Midwest, their owners, trainers, grooms and handlers. 50 Top Ten wins, 17 Reserve Championships and 38 Scottsdale Championships!
Courtney Boggs claimed two of the first weekend’s Top Tens along with a Reserve Championship in Arabian English Show Hack, JTR 14-17 with BP Klassique Bey. And with that, the Show was off to a great start.
The young superstar handler, Miss Emma Boggs––showing in the youth division––brought in a clean sweep with six consecutive Scottsdale Halter wins! Emma presented Rohara Mademoiselle, Ebony by Valentino, Symphony of Love, Anna Marie BHF, Valente LD and DC Magnum Storm to Scottsdale Arabian Classic Champions in the JTH division.
Terry Anne claimed the Unanimous English Show Hack Championship with BP Klassique Bey and Reverse Championship with DC Magnum Storm in the Gelding AAOTH.
For her part, Lyndsey Boggs enjoyed the show through one of her passions, the camera lens, recording for posterity Midwest family achievements.
AND, not to be outdone, the youngest member of the Boggs clan, Mr. Jake Boggs, was named Grand Champion in the Lead line Equitation – Riders 2 to 7 Years of age.

Todd Weegens winning – Reserve Champion Stock/Hunter Type Mares – AAOTH with Rohara Mademoiselle
Maddox Van Ryad, charmed and amazed the judges and the audience with an outstanding “perfect score” performance of 150 points to win $5,000 in the Platinum Performance Arabian Liberty Final. Alcides Rodrigues and Jason Tackett were his “ring men” for owners Sally and Jim Bedeker.
It’s a widely accepted fact within the Arabian horse show community that the competition in Scottsdale is stiffer than any other Arabian Horse Show––anywhere. So, to claim a total of nine final Scottsdale Championships on Sunday Morning for 2011 is an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations go to:

• Unanimous Half Arabian Classic Supreme Champion Half Arabian and Saddle/Pleasure Junior Champion Filly Shes Still Jammin with Greg Hazelwood showing for new owner Felix Cantu and breeders Oak Ridge Arabians.
• Half Arabian Classic Saddle/Pleasure Senior Champion Mare MM Magnum Butterfly with David showing for Felix Cantu.
• Unanimous Classic Senior Champion Gelding DC Magnum Storm with Dagmar Gordiano showing for David and Terry Anne.
• Unanimous Classic Junior Champion Filly, Goddess of Da Vinci, with David showing for Sally Bedeker.
• Unanimous Classic Senior Champion Mare, French Psylk, with David showing for Carlos Roizner.
• Classic Senior Champion Stallion, LD Pistal, with David showing for Felix Cantu.
And finally, the crème de la crème of the February wins, the 2011 Scottsdale Arabian Classic Supreme Championship, the amazing LD Pistal adding it to the amazing collection of Championships for Felix Cantu.
Scottsdale 2011 is now one for the record books. From record cold temperatures that froze the fountain in the Midwest driveway––to the first of 37 horses going to proud new owners via the Midwest Invitational Sale. From the reigning Scottsdale Champion achieving that honor yet again––to the unbridled joy that comes from the extended family of Team Midwest.
These ten days of Scottsdale payed fitting tribute to 50 years of dedication and hard work, and the never ending search for the best of the best in the Arabian breed.
