*Fausto
(Magnum Psyche x FHF Xantal)
[click here for pedigree ]   [click here for video]   [click here for photo gallery]

As royally bred as a stallion can be, *Fausto crh not only exhibits the beauty, balance and brilliance of his sire, but also the unmistakable quality of the important Aladdinn ~BASK++ blood carried by his dam, fhf Xantal.

A daughter of U. S. National Champion, Almaden II, fhf Xantal carries four lines to *BASK++, the all time leading progenitor of National winning Arabian show horses. The first such line comes through Almaden II, a son of U. S. National Champion Stallion *Aladdinn, the all-time leading sire of National Champion Arabian Stallions.

As to motion ~ Almaden II is a 3/4 brother to 6 time National Champion Park Horse, Allience (both stallions being by *Aladdinn out of daughters of *BASK++). Almaden's dam, La Ambir, was not only a daughter of *BASK++, but also a 3/4 sister to Ambra, one of the breed's greatest-ever, National Champion Park Horses. AND, *Fausto's third dam, A Special Feature, was by the *BASK++ son, Gdansk, another superb Park Horse and full brother to National Champion Park Horse, Cognac. Many of today's most successful Saddle Seat English Division Champions carry, up close, the blood of both Gdansk and Cognac.

As to Arabian type ~ Needless to say, Magnum is an immeasurably important progenitor of exotic Arabian show horses. And when crossed on females that carry Arabian type, the results are nothing short of remarkable. fhf Xantal is such a mare. From a line of the breed's best athletes, this mare also represents exceptional beauty and refinement.

Fausto's additional two lines to *BASK++ come through Wind Feature, a daughter of Fire Wind out of a daughter of Fire Wind. Himself out of a daughter of the American foundation sire, Rapture, Fire Wind was considered by many to have been one of *BASK's two or three most beautiful sons. Early in his career as a breeding stallion, *BASK++ was bred to the daughters of Rapture and other heavily *Raffles/Skowronek-bred mares with extraordinary success. The offspring of these matings gave the breed some of the loveliest horses of their day, horses that still play important roles in the pedigrees of modern champions. A line to Dan Gainey's beloved Ferzon son, Gazon, and lines to Spanish beauties, rounds out fhf Xantal's powerful contribution of extreme Arabian type.

Taking his place beside the other important stallions standing at Midwest, *Fausto crh is a stallion whose substantial past promises a brilliant future.

Don Morse and his Stallion named
*FAUSTO

What is it that draws us inexorably to the horse, and holds us, then, in this animal's spell? Why do men and women of every imaginable background yearn toward this most glorious of all creatures? And why do so many people, following the pathways of their separate and varied lives, find themselves on the road that leads to the oneness of spirit that is shared by all those who come to know God's beloved horse?

Surely there are many answers to this question. But among them is one that goes to the heart of man's deepest desire for belonging, for being a friend and having one, for sharing joy along the road to eternity. Such a motive, such a draw belongs to Don Morse.

A big man in every sense, a man of gentleness and of purpose, Don met the Arabian horse by chance, as he wandered one of those companionable byways that so often lead us beyond the boundaries of what we have previously known. So this is his story, in brief. It is a tale of love and friendship, faith and camaraderie. It is an account of dreams, perhaps unknown, realized in the most unexpected ways.

A veritable titan of industry whose energy and ambition had taken him to a pinnacle of success enjoyed by few, Don found himself, one sunny afternoon, on a golf course with a good friend. In one of those non-coincidental twists of fate that happen now and then, that friend, Riley Meyers, just happened to be the owner of some fine Arabian horses including the wonderful FS Ritz . In the way of those who can't help but share the things they love most, Riley invited Don and his wife Janey to come along with him to a showing of the best, by the best. Don reminisces about that introduction: "David and Ritz had won at Scottsdale , and the joy, the enthusiasm and the love for the Arabian horse that Riley expressed that day was contagious. I wanted that same kind of experience for Janey and myself". And so it was that the Morse's were first introduced to David and Terry Anne Boggs, and to the Arabian horse.

Without further adieu, the Morse's were welcomed into the circle of friends and extended family known as Midwest. Soon they were traveling to all manner of domestic and exotic locales, partaking of the joy that beats like a great heart in this company. Before they knew it, they became, like their friend Riley, the owners of some of the world's most beautiful Arabian horses. In the blink of an eye, Don and Janey were a part of the camaraderie that surrounds the horse and captures the heart. Of course, this was inevitable. We are drawn, always, to our own kind, to those with whom our hearts can beat in rhythm.

When he talks about this new way of life, the theme of Don's story never varies. For him, it is all about friendship. He tells the listener how dearly he loves the horses, especially the splendid, *Fausto. He talks of the mares and the foals he can scarcely wait to see. He mentions the joys of learning and winning. But always his conversation returns to the people he has come to know and love ~ thanks to the Arabian horse.

" In all my life," Don says, "I've never met finer, more honorable, warmer hearted people than the ones I've come to know through our mutual admiration for these horses. Fernando and Joaquin de Santibanes , Lucky Lurken, Dan Grossman, Lady Gina Pelham, Pole Levy (and many others here in the United States , South America , Canada . Chile , England and Australia ) are some of the most wonderful people I've ever met. They're classy, and fun loving. They're brilliant, and kind. They are people I hope to call my friends forever."

And David, the listener asks?

"And David . . ." Don hesitates. "There are just no words to express how I feel about this man. He's a gift from God. He's not just a fine businessman, or a world-class horseman. He's a great and loving family man, a Christian man of tremendous faith. In my experience and in my opinion, he's the best there ever was and the best there ever will be."

Then, with pride he doesn't even try to conceal, Don says, "I'm going to be the godfather of David's son. I could be given no greater honor."

That, in short, expresses David and Terry Anne's feelings for Don.

Since they met three years ago, Don has followed David's every recommendation regarding the purchase, sale and showing of some of the world's finest Arabian horses. With their friendship deepening day by day, the unstoppable duo has chalked up one success after another.

" We've bought more than 35 horses," Don, the businessman, says .  "We have purchased horses for various reasons. Most of them we buy for breeding purposes, some for the fun of winning and some to buy as an investment to resell at a later time, and David has made sure that we have not lost money on any of the horses we have sold. I know this is not real common, but David is a great advisor.   Travis Rice is an up and coming star at Midwest who has helped Janey and me tremendously, and has become very close to us and we value his knowledge and friendship very much. And the greatness of Team Midwest doesn't stop with these two. Midwest is built on the solid foundation of an amazing group of people who share David and Terry Anne 's love for the horses, people who are fun loving, hard working and self motivated; people like Jorden, Gil, Rinaldo and the many others who round out this fraternity of horse lovers."

Just a few of the extraordinary mares that David has found for Don and Janey include:

*JJ La Estrella (The 2005 United States & Brazilian National Champion Mare) and

*LL Albufera (The 2005 Chilean National Champion Mare)

* Sashaa LHT (The 2005 Brazilian National Champion Filly)

*LC Athina (The 2005 Argentine National Supreme halter Champion)

* JJ Fantasia ( The 2004 Argentine National Champion)

When they decided they wanted to start a breeding program, Don and Janey listened to David's advice and began collecting the best mares available.

In the beginning, they planned only to own breeding mares and show horses. So how did it happen that the beautiful Magnum son, *Fausto, became a member of their growing equine family?

"I was spending a lot of time with Fernando and Lucky, seeing how much fun they had with their stallions," Don recalls. "So, I asked David to keep his eye open for a really great one for us."

It was while David was judging a show in Brazil that he first saw *Fausto. He couldn't wait to call Don, who bought the colt, immediately, sight unseen.

"I'd trust David with my life. So it wasn't any stretch to trust him when he said he'd found a colt he thought would be a great stallion. And it didn't take a lot of consideration for me to say just go ahead and buy him."

And was he happy with that purchase? You bet!

"I fell in love with *Fausto the minute I saw his pictures. My very favorite color for a horse is chestnut and this guy is the most beautiful dark chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. I just love him. Of all our horses, he's my favorite ."

The only thing that has been difficult for Don since the purchase of *Fausto was leaving the young stallion in Brazil.

"David wanted him to stay down there so that he could be shown in the Brazilian Nationals. I kind of reluctantly agreed. And, as it happens, that was the right thing to do."

Again, Don was a little bit disappointed that David didn't want to show *Fausto at Scottsdale . "But, as always, I know he was right. The horse had just arrived from Brazil and he was tired. It wouldn't have been right to put him through that kind of stress. Besides, there will be lots of other shows. David has taught me not to be one of those "soccer dads" who thinks his kid is best and should always be out there in front. There's a time and place for all of the great ones. *Fausto is a great one, and I feel he'll have his time. I hope with all my heart that *Fausto will go on to become a sire that produces many wonderful offspring and helps to further the beauty of the Arabian horse.

So what lies ahead for the Morse's? At their Oak Ridge Farm in Freeport , Illinois , Don and Janey have just built a 22,000 square foot barn. Two of their children are building houses on their 230 acre farm, so Don and Janey will be able to see their children and grandchildren enjoying the love of the beautiful Arabian horse. They're doing a lot of embryo transfers with their best mares, and the recipients along with others not in the show string, will come to live in the lush pastures with the Morse family.

Janey is taking dressage lessons, while one of the Morse's granddaughters is learning western and dressage . It's a family affair of the first order. Don and Janey can't wait to spend time with their family members working their horses in the arena, or riding across the 100 plus acres of woods that surround the pastures where trails are being made so that the whole family can trail ride through the woods alongside a wide creek and enjoy seeing the deer, turkey, coyote, fox, pheasants, rabbits and the many other creatures that share their beautiful home place.

"There's one more thing I want to say about David," Don told this interviewer, as we were about to wrap up our conversation.

Please, go ahead, was my natural response.

"I've known David for three years," Don began. "I see him three or four times a week in the winter at Scottsdale .  In all that time, with all that contact, I've never heard him brag about anything he's done. And he's never lied to me. If I compliment him on something, he always says, 'I'm blessed,' or gives the credit to someone else. I've never known anybody who has had such amazing success and yet can remain so humble.

"I can't say enough about how much I love him."

*FAUSTO

A magnificent, look-alike son of Magnum, Brazilian National Champion Colt, *Fausto crh arrived on U. S. soil just in time for the 2006 festivities in Scottsdale, where he was received with no small degree of excitement. Not shown due to his recent travels, *Fausto was presented to crowds of enthusiastic new fans at the Midwest Gala and other gatherings. His owner/importers, Don and Janey Morse, are thrilled to have *Fausto home and deeply grateful for the opportunity to take part in the life of such a horse.
